This image shows one of my earlier ideas using the pound note image. My thought behind something like this was that because the tuition fees are rising that now education is seen now as only money appose to education which should be available to everyone in their own right.

Again another one of my ideas which shows the effects due to the what will be a ridiculous increase in tuition fees. My thought behind this is to show exactly what the costs of going to university could mean for those less fortunate or those wanting to save up. These figures are surprising, but yet so many people over look this or don't realize.
The image here is the developed double page spread from the one above this. I have changed the font to Impact as that was what the group decided would work best. I've enlarged the pound coins photo as i felt before it looked a bit like it had just been dumped in the middle of a page, but this way there is more interaction with both text and image. With the text I've tried to consider the more important parts and highlighted them by enlarging that particular part of the sentence. I've also been experimental with the word rise, this word is what represents the article. However i consider making the font larger as it went up, but what i wanted to do was keep the figures the same size as each has their own individual importance.

I originally began with a page saying tuition fees and on the other text based upon the subject. However this wasn't at all interested and wanted to make something that would make people not only think about, but enjoy looking at and get the point across successfully. My reasoning behind my final idea was that student fees are taking over, taking over the whole educational philosophy. When people would first think of going to university wrongly or rightly, generally it would be for either the education and expanding their knowledge of a particular field or partying. Now however your forced to consider prices of going and to many is stressful in itself. The design above it to represent these sort of feeling with the words 'tuition fees' being completely random, over lapping each other and even going over the top of the text making it harder to read.

This was my initial design using an image taken from the internet, but after editing it and creating the graph i found the image became pixelated and didn't work at all. I decided to start again and use images i had taken my self. I found i got better lines and after editing the image still kept the sharpness so was better for what i was trying to create.
This is the original photo that i used.
I edited the image i had taken and set them up in a graph like style. I went on to take this image over to in design to add the finishing touches.
Above i have included the development of my idea. The reasoning behind this was to show the massive jump in tuition fees compared to the past years. I feel this is a great way to get the message across straight away. The graph shows the jump in costs, but what i did to link it to the education side was used pencils within the bar graph. I originally got the idea of this when i was going through a design book and saw this image of pencils laying next to each other and thought if i put them within a graph could be put to use very well. And i think it has worked considering the feedback I've had on it.
Obviously all images will be in black and white when I experiment with them, like the brief states. The reason why i've chosen these images is because I believe that they are all strong images.
RESEARCH
We were asked to look at a book by Marshall McLuhan and Quentin Fiore called Medium is the MASSAGE,
we were asked to get inspiration from this book and then get some ideas together for 3 A5 double page spreads, from Marshalls book there were a few pages that stood out to me, they are shown below.
This double page spread is attractive to me because of the way both pages are used and how the white is played off the black, it's a good example of using typography to grab the viewers attention.
The theme as you can see in the last few images that I scanned in, is using one page of imagery and one page of structured text. Also what they were doing in this section of the book is using the page of imagery on one page that has nothing to do with the text on the page next to it, but when the page is turned you see that the text for that image is on the reverse of the page, this technique is different and very engaging.

Evaluation
The project which has just taken place i have found extremely interesting. Having to work within a group just like being at a place of work. When it came to the work the group as a whole worked very well, we arranged meetings around each other and was able to get together enough so to produce a descent final product in our magazine. The magazine we created was all based around students, and as a group we thought necessary to try and represent students as within the magazine as well as possible. After designing the layout of the magazine we discided to use a lower quality type of paper like a newspaper so it seemed cheaper, as student are generally class with cheap. The project has gone quite well i believe and didn't encounter many problems, the main problem was finding a type of paper to use nearest to a newspaper quality. The printing was also quite technical as we had done double sided printing and had to consider lining up the pages. Overall however i feel it worked well and the group was happy with the end product.
